The 8 May marks the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. Telford & Wrekin Council has decided to continue with celebrations locally despite the current lockdown but they will now be virtual.
The 75th anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on the enormous sacrifice, courage and determination of people from all walks of life who saw us through a dark and terrifying period in our history. This is even more important during the current global situation to celebrate our heroes and bring the community together in times of hardship and worry.
VE Day is when Victory was declared in Europe and the nation will be planning to mark the occasion. During this unprecedented time public events are not possible and so Telford & Wrekin Council are developing a 'virtual celebration' encouraging communities to engage in a range of activities that they can organise from their homes and gardens, staying safe, protecting others, but joining in. At this very strange and testing time, community resilience is clear everywhere we look and we hope to harness that community spirit for a very special bank holiday Telford style celebration on Friday 8th May.
